The Australian Superb Lyrebird is known for it’s ability to accurately mimic sounds of it’s environment – generally those of other avian species. In the Adelaide Zoo a Superb Lyrebird started mimicking mechanical sounds, like the one of a chainsaw. This simulative capacity has inspired the name of a crowdsourcing start-up from Montréal (‘lyrebird.ai’) that collects voices from strangers online, in order to develop deep learning language technologies, providing voice donors with their personal imitating voice-avatar as a return.
